I didn’t know what to expect from the third film in the pirates trilogy. Would it stay with the obscure fashions of Jack? Now forcing him to be funnier than he naturally was in the first film? Would it come up with even more outrageous themes and plotlines to compel the merchandising and the young audience?
Well. I must say I was very shocked by the amount of maturity thrown upon what used to be light-hearted action adventure. But its a good thing. Does this mean Disney has realized that the true fan base are nowhere near the target market they predict?
The Unconventional aspects hit me from the moment those curtains went up. The detail of the first scene, with the setting it creates told me strait away that this is the ultimate movie in its saga.
The way in which Disney has taken the conventions of the Pirates Genre and torn it apart, given it a new outlook… amazed me. But shocked me at the same time. Because, this is no longer suitable for a child’s eyes. They would not understand the complex, adult storylines and situations, nor would their parents find it appropriate for them to watch. Pirates of the Caribbean has lost a lot of its followers through taking this next step, but thankfully it should gain the respect of film critics throughout.
The only part of 'At Worlds End' that brought the childish front back to me was Jack's attitude and of course, his witty, and laugh out loud humour throughout just to lighten the mood.
Pirates 3 has revolutionised the whole view on the last films, in my eyes - 'At Worlds End' was so much more realistic. A great use of style and theme. A good complexity of characters and situations... and I’m quite glad to say, as Pirates of the Caribbean has grown up, it has grown into a very magnificent specimen of what a true Pirates film should be.
