Chapter 7
Both the Sangua Rosa and the Black Pearl were running out of supplies so they docked at the nearest port. "Good old Tortuga," cried Jack. He had been here many times before. He and Hear walked by all the drunks and men chasing women, when he spotted a pub. "Why don't we stop and…" he stopped in mid sentence then shouted ", Caroline! What a…" but he didn't finish that either because Caroline slapped him across the face and walked away VERY unhappy.
"And what was that for?" asked Hear, not really surprised because she probably would have done the same for whatever the reason was. Jack just stood there then replied ", I'm not sure," then he kept going. ", As I was saying, why don't we stop and have a drink?"
"No. The sooner we get what we need the sooner we can leave."
"Oh, one drink never hurt anyone," he said with a smile.
"Well except for that one night, right Jack?" Hear replied as she passed him to go into the pub. Jack just chuckled and followed her path.
Hear sat at the table in the back while Jack got the drinks. He comes back with two fairly large mugs of rum.
"If I didn't know you any better I'd say you were trying to get me drunk. Good thing I know you better," Hear said with a grin.
"What makes you think I'm not?" Jack replied and smiled back.
In no time at all Hear and Jack were talking and laughing like old friends. Hear giggles then says ", so she got you drunk and burned all the rum!" Jack nodded then took another swig. It went like this 'till their mugs were dry. When they walked out of the pub to walk off the alcohol. They ended up at a beach. Jack sat in the sand then took out two little bottles of rum he smuggled and gave one to Hear. Jack held his bottle up slightly then said ", to the death of Davie Jones." Hear sat down beside him and opened her bottle then said ", I feel the wind in my hair and the spray of the sea. I live like a pirate, so a pirate I be." Jack looked at Hear and said "what?"
"It's just a phrase from a pirate poem I know," she replied and took a drink of her rum.
"Well lets hear it."
"No"
"Come on. We have the time." Hear sighed deeply, took a swig then said ", Lets see if I can remember it all." She took another breath then started ", I feel the wind in my hair and the spray of the sea. I live like a pirate, so a pirate I be. I use the Sun, the Moon, and the Star. Without them I wouldn't have gotten this far. My pride is my ship, no matter how rickety and old. She's been by my side and would never be sold. My crew is my family, through thick and thin. Every battle we get into we will always win. The feeling of freedom is the feeling I urn. My money is stolen and never earned. I lie, I cheat, I gamble and steal; but it's all for one reason, the freedom I feel. I live for the rush and thrill of adventure. The situations I get into make me tenser. But I wiggle my way out just be out at sea. I live like a pirate, so a pirate I be."
Jack nor Hear said anything. Then Hear got up and started to walk towards back to the ships. When she was a good distance away, Jack got up quickly got up and followed her. Keeping his distance, he followed her all the way to the Rosa where she went to bed. "Finally," he said to himself. He creped into Hear's room and started looking in all the drawers, but doing it as quietly as he could so he wouldn't wake Hear. He searched in every drawer and every cabinet, but he still couldn't find what he was looking for. When he was about to open the last cupboard he heard a click from behind him. He zipped around and found a pistol only inches away from his face. "Looking for something?" asked Hear still pointing her gun. Jack got up, still eyeing the pistol. " I told you, the heart is with me and you're never going to find it. Now leave my room before I change my mind about shooting you. Jack left the room, rather quickly. Hear straightened her room then went back to bed.
The next morning they set sail again, but it wasn't long before they saw a ship approaching them. Jack looked to Hear to see what she wanted to do. She apparently didn't see him, but rolled her eyes at the sight of the vessel. As the visiting got closer Jack saw a French flag, but there was still no response from Hear. A few minutes later and they all heard a cry from the French ship "Hello cousin Hear.
