*Captain* Jack Sparrow

This roguish and incredibly charming pirate Captain knows much more of human
psychology than you can possibly imagine. Catwalk, vague hand-gestures, blurred
words - this makes him seem constantly drunk and, therefore, totally harmless.
But that's *exactly* what he needs. When no one expects it from him, he easily
fools people around and gets what he wants.

He, unlike a usual pirate, can behave like quite a gentleman, he may agree to help (when there's a profit in it for him, certainly), and rum isn't all he cares about. He needs his Freedom and he goes for it.

William Turner
A blacksmith, who's been cherishing his love to the Governor's daughter in his heart, but never even dared to call her by first name, realizes how much he would give for her only when she is kidnapped by the Cursed Pirates. He'd die for her, according to his own words.
But for saving Elizabeth, he has to help Jack Sparrow (sorry, *Captain* Jack Sparrow) to get out of the jail, to learn that his father was a pirate, to square up with knowing that piracy is in his blood, survive several fights and, actually, turn into a real pirate himself.

From a blacksmith that he was at the beginning of the movie, he becomes a real pirate, who can value friendship and knows the meaning of love.

Elizabeth Swann
As Keira Knightley said about her, she's a "girl of the twentieth century, trapped in those ages". She's strong, determined, and has much more will than women were supposed to have in the times she lived.

The Governor's daughter, she is kidnapped by pirates for a piece of cursed Aztec gold, and, of course, for the "blood to be repaid". But it's not her blood they need, for she lied and called herself Elizabeth Turner... Well, maybe in the end she will become Elizabeth Turner?.. Who knows?..

Hector Barbossa
Oh yes, his first name is Hector.

Portrayed as a villain, he still makes some of us teary-eyed with his final words and an apple rolling from his hand... Vile, and dishonest (and a dishonest man you can *always* trust to be dishonest), he does his best to get rid of Captain Sparrow, but, in the end... it turns out differently.
